The existence and operation of the Cu Chi bases throughout the Southern area in genera and in Cu Chi, in particular, had played a very important role in the resistance war against the US by the Vietnamese people.

From the Geneva Agreement was signed until the day the Southern area of Vietnam was completely liberated, the revolutionary base in Cu Chi was the operation place of the activities of the Gia Dinh provincial and inter-provincial Party committees in winter.

It is the place of the leading agencies that have the mission of leading and guiding the soldiers in Vietnam, creating the power for Cu Chi people to fight.
This is where the armed forces of Vietnam came to stay, hide, consolidate, and develop forces to conduct attacks, counterattack and destroy the enemy. The army and people of Cu Chi had built their bases in the form of mainly underground tunnels-villages, which were originally used as shelters, creating fulcrums to operate and fight.
The underground tunnels were where the people of Vietnam stayed and fought
Throughout the wars, the tunnel system ensured safety for the guerrilla forces and people, even though the enemy had overwhelming power on the surface. As for the people, thanks to the tunnels, they didn’t have to worry about running into the enemy as well as had the chance to avoid the harmful effects of bombs, firecrackers, chemical toxins.
The Cu Chi Tunnels is not only a battlefield to destroy the enemy but also a starting point, a good springboard for the Vietnamese liberation army in attacking. Thus, the Cu Chi Tunnels base did well the role of the rear on the spot, the gathering point of forces and logistics, and the springboard for the main army when the enemy was ordered to attack Ho Chi Minh City.
In fact, the resistance war against the US showed clearly that the Cu Chi Tunnels had been both a place to solve the potential problems of the war as well as a comprehensive battlefield with the enemy.
