Where is the Cu Chi Tunnels?
The Cu Chi Tunnels are an in-ground defense system about 70km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City Center. Currently, this historic miracle is preserved in two main locations:
- Ben Duoc Tunnels (base of Party Committee, Command of Saigon Military Region - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh) in Phu Hiep Hamlet, Phu My Hung Commune, Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City
- Ben Dinh Tunnels (based on Cu Chi District Party Committee) in Ben Dinh Hamlet, Nhuan Duc Commune, Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City.
If not too tight on time, it is highly recommended to visit both locations to fully feel the beauty of nature and the war history of the Vietnamese people. Moreover, the distance from Saigon to Cu Chi Tunnels is quite short, just need about 2 hours to reach here. Too suitable for a day trip?
How does Cu Chi Tunnels are formed?
Surely you still have a little question about the name "tunnel" right? The tunnel is known as a system of short tunnels, with a simple structure to hide. Cu Chi Tunnels is a common name for these different types of tunnels and was formed during the Indochina War in 1946-1948.
Around this time, the region's army and people dug up small and separate vaults to avoid sweeping raids by the French colonialists as well as refuge for the Viet Minh. In addition to being a hideout, it is also a hiding place for important documents and weapons for the fight against foreign invaders
At first, the villages built their own tunnels, but to make it easier to move and connect between the villages and communes, the localities were connected together into a continuous and extremely complex system.
From 1961 - 1965, the tunnel was developed "rapidly" with interlaced branches, connecting axial routes in the northern communes and comprehensively connecting with different hamlets, communes and regions. Furthermore there is also a traffic belt connected to the tunnel, at which time the battle tunnel is also divided into several floors with many nooks and crannies. The battle mounds, minefields, bunkers, nail holes, ... are also arranged in continuous clusters to create a solid battlefield in the guerrilla warfare.

Excellent experience
It was an experience, that you will never forget, how it would have been during the war, with no light, food and much air and space. If you are able it is definitely worth going in the tunnel. It is not very long and a little bit of light and air. We will come back Cu Chi Tunnels again

Great time with the Halong bay & Bai Tu Long bay
Hello Hung ! A big hello from the us. We are checked into Queen hotel and also have been given free access to the internet for 1 night! Hello Giang What a nice surprise to know from you. Here in little Denmark we're approching the authum and also the weather is not such as in Vietnam: -( the sun i shinning however the tempeture is only 5 C so it's the beginning to obtain colder.As you know the two of us started on our brand new jobs on September 17 and sofar it's been a very good but additionally very busy period for that both of us. We really enjoyed our vacation in Vietnam and much because of your effort in telling all of us about Vietnam and bringing us nearer to the local Vietnam lifestyle. Good time in Vietnam
